Hospital built through partnership of Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican, Emerus

LAS VEGAS – June 20, 2017 – More than 400 dignitaries and North Las Vegas residents christened the new Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican North Las Vegas Campus neighborhood hospital last week, an important step in addressing a shortage of medical care in Nevada.

The North Las Vegas Campus is the first of four new hospitals planned for the Las Vegas Valley this year through a joint venture partnership of Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican (DHSRD) and Emerus Holdings Inc., which specializes in the design, build and management of value-based micro-hospitals that offer a broad range of evolving coordinated care options, in conjunction with its partners.

The ribbon-cutting celebration took place at the new 60,000-square-foot hospital on the corner of Craig Road and Camino Al Norte.

“We are so pleased to offer the Las Vegas community much-needed, and improved, access to the very best inpatient care, primary care and wellness programs available,” said Laura Hennum, Market CEO for DHSRD Neighborhood Hospitals. “We thank the entire Dignity Health team and our Las Vegas community leaders for providing such strong support for this project,” she told the standing-room-only gathering. “This beautiful new hospital is here to serve you.”

North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee said, “With all of the projects our community is currently working on, I can tell you none is more important to our community. Dignity Health is bringing some of the smartest minds, the most caring staff and the best specialists to the North Las Vegas community. This is a special day.”

The other hospitals planned under the partnership, on Flamingo Road and the 215 Beltway; Blue Diamond Road and Decatur Boulevard; and Sahara Avenue and Decatur Boulevard, are set to open July 24, Aug. 16 and in early November, respectively. All told, the hospitals are expected to bring 250 to 280 jobs to the Valley and fast emergency care in neighborhoods where residents need and deserve better access to health care.

Per capita, Nevada ranks 48th in the nation in physicians and 50th in primary care physicians, according to a study released last year by the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Nevada falls well below the national rates of medical doctors per 100,000 members of the population, and doctors in patient care per 100,000 population, according to the report. The study also says the number of MDs per capita in 16 of 39 medical specialties hasn’t kept up with the past 20 years of population growth.

“We’re focusing on unserved and underserved communities,” said Sister Katie McGrail, Vice President of Mission Integration, Dignity Health-St. Rose Dominican’s Siena Campus. “That was a top priority.”

Jason Lisovicz, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Emerus, said those numbers reflect on why Emerus chose Las Vegas as the site of its new hospitals. “Foundationally, our organization works toward filling critical gaps in health care in communities and neighborhoods where patients live, work and play. In health care, seconds mean everything — quick access to care can be the difference between life and death.”

Each new hospital will be staffed by board-certified physicians, experienced nurses and other clinical specialists dedicated to providing the same level of compassionate, patient-focused care found at DHSRD’s existing hospital locations.

“We’ve proven in the past that North Las Vegas is an innovator, and we’re doing great things here,” Mayor Lee said. “We’re always looking for great business partners, and Dignity Health is a perfect partner for everything we want to accomplish. Plus, we’re very excited about the jobs that are being created.

“This is not just a building,” he said. “This is a monument to North Las Vegas. When people say the name Dignity Health, they’ll know exactly where this is. They’ll remember this beautiful building. We’re thrilled to have Dignity in our community.”
